How many hours of wedding photo and video coverage do you need?

Choose your first and last must-cover moments
Start with what you want captured. Is getting ready important? Will you have a first look? Do you want coverage through speeches, dancing, or a planned exit? Write down the first and last events you want each professional present for.
Photo and video do not automatically need identical coverage. You might want getting-ready photographs but prioritize ceremony and reception audio for your film. Bring those preferences to the studio.
Account for the time between events
Portraits, family groups, travel, and setup need room in the schedule. A ceremony at one location and reception at another can require a longer coverage window than a celebration in one place.
For example, coverage from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. is eight hours. If your exit is at 10 p.m., that window will not include it. This is a planning example, not a promise that eight hours covers every wedding.
Decide what can happen at the same time
If you are getting ready in separate places or want guest coverage while taking portraits, discuss whether another photographer or videographer would help. Adding a second person and adding hours solve different problems.
Ask the studio to compare options against the moments you value. Do not add hours just because a package sounds more complete, or cut them before checking what would fall outside the window.
Confirm the window before booking
Public browsing starts at the studio’s four-hour minimum, and individual artists may have higher minimums in their booking options. An initial estimate is a starting point while you develop the schedule.
